Uncle Bill's Martinis
Uncle Bill used to keep a jug of this in the freezer for impromptu happy hours, as it was always 5 o'clock somewhere. He used vodka, but you can substitute gin if you'd like. This recipe is enough for one martini. Extrapolate if you want to make more than one at a time. Better yet, make a bunch in advance without using ice, and keep them in the freezer.
Makes one martini
Ingredients
-- 1 double shot vodka
-- A few drops dry vermouth
-- 1 large green olive with pit
Instructions
Combine vodka and a breath of dry vermouth (a few drops; by no means more than about 1/2 teaspoon) in a cocktail shaker with ice. SHAKE, do not stir, the martini. You don’t want to dilute the alcohol. Strain into a small glass and add one large green olive that still has the pit (this is a crucial detail to an authentic Uncle Bill Martini. If you can’t find green olives with a pit, get them without, but don’t use any kind of stuffed olive, even if it’s just pimento).
