Salt Dough Christmas Tree Ornaments

This is the recipe we used for our homemade “cookie” tree ornaments.

Ingredients

  • -- 1/2 cup salt

  • -- 3/4 cup hot tap water

  • -- 2 cups flour


Instructions

Preheat the oven to 275°F. In a medium bowl, combine ingredients and knead until dough feels smooth and firm. Add more flour if dough feels too sticky or more water if dough feels too dry and crumbly. Keep dough covered until used. Roll out on lightly floured wax paper and cut. Punch hole in top to allow for an ornament hanger (the actual hanger is added after baking the dough). Bake for 1 hour or until the dough is hard. When dry, decorate with paints, markers, or just varnish. Let dry. Once dry, add a yarn or twine ornament hanger.
